Biography - Ravin J. Appadoo
Ravin Appadoo is currently President of Aviation Fuel Solutions Inc., an aviation consulting company based on the South-shore of Montreal, Canada. Aviation Fuel Solutions is specialized in aviation fuel and conducts commercial and technical work for major customers who include international airlines, airports, oil companies and agencies like IATA, the UN and ICAO. The company leverages a unique web of strategic partners and leading aviation fuel experts to offer a comprehensive set of solutions to the industry.
Formerly, Ravin was Vice President of Armbrust Aviation Group where he was responsible for directing all the technical and price risk management activities of the Armbrust Group. His duties included developing and implementing solutions for airline and airport customers, advising customers on fuel hedging strategies, conducting research in jet fuel and airport operational matters, providing editorial content for AirOps magazine - the technical publication of the Group, and also developing the agenda for the Annual International Armbrust Airport Operations/Fuel Conference.
Ravin Appadoo was formerly Assistant Director of technical fuel at IATA’s Montreal Office where he was the focal point for all technical, price risk management, quality and safety issues and projects in aviation fuel for the Association’s 270 member airlines worldwide. He also led the work of important industry groups including serving as secretary to the Aviation Fuel Working Group and Administrator of the IATA Fuel Quality Pool. Ravin has played a leading role in the 2004 IATA “Fuel Action Campaign” where he developed and implemented a fuel conservation program for the industry aimed at combating rising fuel costs for the airlines. Ravin managed an industry initiative project designed to help many airlines using hedging tools to manage their exposure to price risks.
Prior to joining IATA, Ravin followed a 15-year career at Air Mauritius, the national airline of Mauritius. His work experience covered a diverse portfolio of responsibilities ranging from purely engineering, operational and technical activity through consulting to more finance-related issues like fuel purchasing, financial risk management and aviation insurance. Ravin pioneered Air Mauritius’ hedging program in 1997 and directed the fuel risk department until his departure to join IATA in 2001.
He is an engineer by training, holding a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration; both degrees from UK universities. Other diplomas include post-graduate work in automobile engineering at L’ENSET, Cachan in France, a diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from the National College of Industrial Hygiene, Footscray Institute of Technology in Australia and a number of specialized aviation courses on topics such as Performance Engineering and Airline Fuel Management. He has completed and obtained a Ph.D. in a doctoral research work at Cranfield University, U.K., in the area of Jet fuel specifications.
